ecovillage (community), forming, 2000-
We are a town based community currently living in Northampton (England), which intends to relocate and start an anarchist ecovillage, growing vegan organic food and materials in a forest garden. We are living in a large town house, which was originally built as a school in about 1880. The community started in 1988 to provide a supportive base for families who wished to home educate and live in an environmentally friendly way.

We share an ethos of nonviolence, and respect for each other and the wider community. Some of us are working on anti war activities. We also run an organic vegetable box scheme. Alongside the house is Blackcurrent Centre - Northampton's peace, justice and environmental resource centre.

Anarres is the name we have chosen for our ecovillage. It is taken from a SF novel called 'The Dispossessed' by Ursula le Guin and the story is set in an anarchist society called Anarres.

We expect the process of finding the land for Anarres and getting planning permission to take about two years. We then expect the process of building and initial planting to take about another two years. During this time we will live part time on the land, moving there full time in about 2006.

We welcome visitors and new members who are interested in working with us to establish the village.
