We are a small egalitarian community and organic farm established in June 2003 and located on 110 acres in the hills of Ozark County, MO.
We raise dairy goats, egg chickens, and various vegetables using local organic inputs and no-till design. We work to put the principles of Permaculture into daily practice, using clean energy resources and recycling our waste as best we can. For example, we run our motor vehicles off of used cooking oil from local restaurants; we compost our human manure; we use a windmill to pump our well water.
We offer a wide range of skilled and unskilled work experiences in gardening, food processing, construction, milking, cheesemaking, forestry, salvage, and maintenance.
We envision and work for a community which embraces the following values:
Living simply in harmony with our environment, considering sustainability, ecology and the effect of our actions on the next seven generations;
Living with a positive, loving focus, resolving our differences non-violently, valuing cooperation and sharing, and fostering respect, honesty and responsibility in all relationships;
Encouraging and supporting individual creative expression and spiritual development, enjoying each other and celebrating each person's unique contribution to community.
"No matter where you go, there you are."

I stayed at Oran Mor for 3 weeks, during May 2008. There are 3 people living there, and much to my surprise they are serious and good-humoured, steady and hard working yet laid back. They take their project seriously, eg they have a brief meeting every day. This might sound like overdoing things, but these brief moments of planning and chatting create a sense of cooperation, being in it together.
In my opinion they have too many things going. But these are all important and great things, like building an earth ship, gardening, and all kind of essential things. So it\'s probably hard to stop any one of these projects. Therefore I hope many people will visit Oran Mor for a few weeks, so that these guys can make more progress.
The community is situated in rural Missouri, meaning it\'s surroundings are green, and sparsely populated. People in the area are friendly, like giving you a ride if they think you\'re from Oran Mor.
They have a great library and interesting musical collection. The Oran Morans ;-) make for interesting conversation. A forest is on the spot, making Oran Mor a good place to retreat a bit while having gentle people around. |
